Jo-Anne Mac MillanHumanistic & Integrative Psychotherapy

I was born and raised in South Africa but have been living in Ireland for many years.

My academic background is in Clinical Psychology in which I hold a BA Hons. Degree. However my core psychotherapy training is in Existential and Gestalt psychotherapy in which I completed a MA Degree in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy at the University of Limerick.

I am an accredited member of the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy and abide by their code of ethics. I am committed to continuous personal development and developing my profile and experience as a psychotherapist and shamanic counsellor.

Approach

In developing my approach to psychotherapy, particular teachers, therapists and supervisors have inspired me by their depth, experience and their way of being. Their ability to meet me and to recognise the hidden depths within me, has been as important as – if not more – than my academic training over the years.

My experience and training includes working with a range of approaches and strategies which allows me to work in an “integrative” way. “Integrative” means that I draw on a variety of therapeutic approaches, like psycho-dynamic, Gestalt, person-centred, body psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural, Neuro Linguistic Programming, Transpersonal therapy, Shamanic Counselling etc. Not all types of therapy might suit everyone, so together we find a therapeutic method that works best for you to resolve the difficulties you might be experiencing at the moment.

I believe that each person has a story to tell and therefore value each person’s individuality and unique circumstances. Telling your story gives me more insight into your life and the difficulties you might be experiencing. Over time as trust develops we build on a client-therapist relationship which is a very important part of the therapeutic process. My role would be to get to know you and to provide a safe, confidential and supportive environment for you in order to develop a greater understanding of yourself and your process.

I am passionate about helping my clients step into a more empowered place. You can contact me for an appointment at my Limerick city or Killaloe office on 086 166 2157.
