Shamanic Counselling

At the heart of core Shamanism is Awareness and Interconnection. Awareness of our woundedness and that it is by healing our own wounds, that our healing ripples out to our relationships, families, communities and overall humanity. When we are aware of our wounds we can make the choice to act from the wounded place or take steps to heal our wounds and act from a healed place. Also, our interconnection to all living things – that we are all part of the one consciousness is integral view of Shamanism. All beings share the same breath. Seeing our interconnection to all living things opens up our heart to all of our natural, animal and human family.

Shamanic Counselling as a model for counselling was developed by Michael Harner and combines therapeutic process and shamanic practice. I personally like to work with this particular model as it is very empowering process for the client and restores their spiritual authority and belief in themselves. Together we create a safe space for you to bring what it is that you need to work on  or work through. We decide together on the way to proceed and formulate a specific outcome that you would like to work towards.

The Shamanic Counselling process is an experiential technique as opposed to verbal or analytical. As part of the process we formulate an intention that is directly related to your outcome and you as client take a Shamanic Journey with this intention as guide. The Shamanic Journey permits you to obtain direct transpersonal wisdom and guidance from your non-ordinary reality (subconcious / higher-self etc.) rather than looking for the answers from outside of yourself.

All and all I have found this process unbelievably empowering and such an enriching transpersonal experience.

A Shamanic Counselling session takes a minimum of 2 hours and it is recommended that you have some free time after your session to reflect on and process what has come up for you during the session. On average clients take 4 – 6 sessions over a period of 4 – 6 months. This time framework is only a guide. You might like to have more or less sessions with shorter breaks in between sessions.

I do recommend that we make an initial appointment beforehand to meet and make an assessment of what you need and whether Shamanic Counselling is the right fit for you.

I see clients for Shamanic Counselling at my office in Killaloe, County Clare.  If you would like to schedule an appointment or would like some more information on the Shamanic Counselling process, please feel free to contact me.
